VCE Pieces
This is perhaps useful information for those who are studying these pieces for VCE.
One for Mum.
Firstly. It is a latin jazz feel which is influenced by my experience in a Brazilian band. The quavers are even and the feeling should be bright and lively not back and relaxed. The accents are essential although there aren't any on the second page. Whoops, I'll have to fix that. This piece does still groove at a slower tempo but still with the lively feel. I reccomend slow practice with a metronome to work out exactly how the rhythms go and to get them to sit. The form consists of an introduction, A section, A2 section (same as intro), A section, A2 section, B section (bridge), A (inverted), A2, then a pseudo improvisation on B, A, A2 and a coda to finish. I guess this is a variation of a popular song form one we use on jazz ballads where you play the whole tune then come in at the bridge and finish it. The melodic variations I used were the type of things I might do in a jazz context. It is in C minor with parts in Eb minor.
The Autumn Cannonball.
I don't have much to add beyond what is inside the cover except to say that the first 8 bars is an intro as are the last 4 (I think). Apart from that the chords of Autumn leaves fit in E minor concert.
